The diagonal cutting bridge servo equipments use the measured ribbon velocity in order to synchronize the cutting head to the ribbon. Therefore, for better dimensional tolerances, the ribbon speed measuring accuracy should be as high as possible. In general, the ribbon speed is measured by using a wheel which rotates when in touch with the ribbon.
The differential angular position of the wheel is then transformed to longitudinal distance taken by the ribbon.
